Almost every call comes down to the same fork: repair the equipment that is there, or replace it. The rest follows from that answer.

The refrigerant in the lines decides what a recharge costs, because the older blends are being phased out and priced accordingly. And what the ducts were sized to carry decides whether new equipment can do what the label says it does.
None of that is visible from a photograph, and all of it is answerable on the phone in about a minute.
- The license
- Held by the contractor rather than by this site, and issued where the work happens — some states license heating and cooling contractors, some leave it to the city, and some require no license for the trade at all. Ask for the number and the name it is held under.
- The figure
- Set by the contractor and said before the work starts. This site never quotes and has no part in it.
- The call
- Describing what the system is doing commits you to nothing. Nothing is booked until you say so.
- Coverage
- By town, not by region. Pick a state below and work down to the town you are in.
